Story Archives: Public Belt Railroad board, down to just four members, won't meet this week

Public Belt Railroad board, down to just four members, won't meet this week
by Michelle Krupa - Times-Picayune (excerpt)

With the beleaguered New Orleans Public Belt Railroad Commission down to just four members, Mayor Mitch Landrieu has postponed Thursday's scheduled board meeting, his top aide said late Tuesday. Chief Administrative Officer Andy Kopplin said the meeting would be postponed because "there are no major decisions that require board action at this time." The resignation last week of General Manager Jim Bridger, however, put at least one big item on the board's to-do list: hiring a new top administrator to lead a quasi-city agency that has been in turmoil since news stories this summer unveiled rampant overspending of public money on Bridger's watch. Meanwhile, Kopplin said he will meet Thursday with the six Class 1 railroads that use the Public Belt "to reaffirm our commitment to reforming this public agency."
