Story Archives: Vitter Wins Easily in Republican Primary

Vitter Wins Easily in Republican Primary

(Metairie, La.) -- U.S. Senator David Vitter tonight made the following statement after winning the Republican Primary for Louisiana’s U.S. Senate Race. Sen. Vitter coasted to a large victory against two opponents.

“Our race is one of the clearest choices in the country. On November 2, Louisiana voters will get to choose between the current Obama policies of endless bailouts, failed stimulus, massive debt, and government-dominated health care, represented by Charlie Melancon, or the common sense conservative alternatives I’ve been advocating. I’m extremely grateful for the outpouring of support of Louisianians who have joined our fight against the big-government, big-spending avalanche in Washington D.C. Lousianians are fed up, and tonight the message is clear – we’re taking our country back,” said Vitter.

Sen. David Vitter watched election returns at his home in Metairie with his family, friends and supporters. Today, Vitter and his family joined supporters waiving signs and going door to door in multiple locations around the state.

In Louisiana, Democrats have a three to one voter advantage, yet Vitter has received a greater number of votes than Melancon. That includes independents who can vote in the Democrat primary but not in the closed Republican Party primary.
