Democrat Leaders Plan Fundraiser For Gautreaux

Top Democratic legislative leadership will host a fundraiser Wednesday to support Morgan City state Sen. Butch Gautreaux’s bid for lieutenant governor.

Signing on to help are Senate President Joel Chaisson II, of Destrehan; state Sen. Eric LaFleur, of Ville Platte; and state Rep. John Bel Edwards, of Amite, who chair the Democratic caucuses in their respective chambers of the Louisiana Legislature.

Gautreaux was a late entry into this fall’s special election for lieutenant governor, which now has eight candidates — five Republicans and three Democrats. The candidates will be on the Oct. 2 ballot to fill the roughly 15 months left in Mitch Landrieu’s term after he resigned to become mayor of New Orleans. Event sponsorships range from $1,000 to $5,000 for the 6 p.m. fundraiser at The Third Floor LLC, 453 Lafayette St., Baton Rouge
