Beck's School Adds LSU Tie- Professor gives talks for TV star

FOX News commentator Glenn Beck has started a new “university” and the only professor on his faculty is from LSU. James Stoner, chairman of LSU’s political science department, recently taped three 30-minute constitutional lectures for the new “Beck University,” which was announced Monday.

The first of the online-only “Beck University” lectures begins running today, but Stoner’s first presentation will not air until July 21. Stoner said he expected some extra attention when he agreed to be part of the latest program by the “lightning rod” conservative commentator. “He obviously knows how to get attention,” Stoner said of Beck. “I read his use of ‘university’ as ironic or kind of a TV thing.”

Stoner is not shy about admitting his conservative leanings, but he denies being partisan. However, he said participating in the program to discuss the U.S. Constitution is part of his role as a faculty member. “I see it as part of what we do as faculty to answer public questions or respond to the public interest,” he said.
