Gov. Bobby Jindal's chief budget architect leaving- "Angele of Death" checks out

Commissioner of Administration Angele Davis, who has helped steer three of Gov. Bobby Jindal's budgets through the state Legislature, is resigning effective in early July, according to sources. The sources said she will be replaced by Paul Rainwater, a former Lake Charles city administration and aide to U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu who now serves as the governor's deputy chief of staff. Before being appointed to lead the Division of Administration under Jindal, Davis served as secretary of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism during Gov. Kathleen Blanco's administration. Davis has served at a difficult time for state budget authorities, as tax cuts and the ongoing recession have sent revenues plummeting and forced deep cuts to many state services. But her departure comes in advance of the most challenging budget cycle of all in 2011-12, the "cliff" year when the state expects to lose more than $1 billion in federal stimulus financing and Medicaid expenses are expected to climb.

COMMENTARY: Ms. Davis is affectionately known around the halls of the Capitol as, "Angele of Death."
