The state Senate plans to consider a resolution today to remember former state Sen. Charles C. Barham, of Ruston, who died Monday. “He was a true statesman,” state Sen. Joe McPherson, D-Woodworth, said Tuesday. Barham had been suffering from cancer, he said. Barham turned 76 two weeks ago. McPherson said he turned to Barham for advice on political issues.
Barham was the son of the late Lt. Gov. C.E. “Cap” Barham and Carice Hilburn Barham. He was a cousin of Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham.
The family will receive family and friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church with funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m., the Rev. Ray Branton officiating.
