Parlange Plantation owner dies (Served on Police Jury for 32 years)
by KATIE KENNEDY - Advocate (excerpt)

Walter Charles Parlange, Jr., a businessman, farmer and owner of Parlange Plantation, has died. He was 87. Parlange died of natural causes Saturday at his home, Parlange Plantation, in Pointe Coupee Parish. His wife of nearly 60 years, Lucy Parlange, said her husband will be buried on the grounds of the plantation home he loved so much and where he spent the majority of his life. “He was a wonderful man,” she said. “He led a long, eventful, productive life, and we’re just thankful the Lord let us have him this long.”

That remarkable life included a tour of duty in World War II, where he served as B-17 bomber pilot. Lucy Parlange said her husband’s patriotic duty called him to serve, even though as an only child, he was not required to enlist. After the war, Walter Parlange returned to his home and helped his father manage the 200-year-old Parlange Plantation. He co-founded and served as president of the False River Water Works in New Roads. Walter Parlange also served on the Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury for a record 32 years, his wife said. He was the long-standing president until his retirement from the board in 1987.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with a memorial service at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. (Baton Rouge).
