SOURCES SAY BOASSO IS RUNNING

Boasso to Announce for Governor

State Sen. Walter Boasso, R-Chalmette, has told sources he will announce his candidacy for governor next week. He would not confirm his plans, but stated, "I'm closer than ever before," adding, "Once we move forward, there is no turning back."

Rep. Jackson Running for Fields' Senate Seat

Rep. Michael Jackson says he will run for the seat now held by state Sen. Cleo Fields. According to one source, Fields has made phone calls to supporters to say he will not seek re-election. He did not return a call for comment.

There is new speculation that Fields, a former congressman, will challenge U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu in the Democratic primary next year.

McCrery Backs Romney For President

In the wide-open race for president, Congressman Jim McCrery will be backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. In a recent campaign statement, Romney announced the Shreveport Republican will serve as his House Congressional Liasion to lead "outreach efforts in the U.S. House."
