The House Democratic Caucus has picked a freshman legislator from Amite as its new chairman.
Rep. John Bel Edwards was elected unanimously by his fellow Democrats to succeed Rep. Karen St. Germain, D-Pierre Part, who had held the post for two years. St. Germain will remain as treasurer. Rep. Patricia Smith, D-Baton Rouge, was elected vice-chair, while Rep. Sam Jones, D-Franklin, is the whip. "I look foward to working with each and every caucus member to develop superior ideas that will help move Louisiana forward in these challenging times," Edwards said.
