LIVINGSTON — Contracting firms that cleared hurricane debris from Livingston Parish streams in 2008 learned from the Parish Council on Thursday they would have to keep on waiting for payment.
Councilman Marshall Harris pressed Shelby Easterly, one of the attorneys hired to represent the parish in its bid to recover money for the storm cleanup promised by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to find out when the contractors would be paid.
“I want to know when these hardworking people who risked their equipment and strained their backs clearing these streams are going to get their money,” Harris said, “some have mortgaged their homes and some are near starving.”
