While aging LSU graduates might remember fondly the Ole Party Skule’s frolics and diversions, a closer inspection of the campus today finds students studying, and reading, and studying some more. The Middleton Library and the LSU Student Union are packed with young people hitting the books and pounding the keyboards of their laptops. Not just a party school back when, but certainly not now.

The long and tough political battle for admissions standards was finally won, and more students of higher academic caliber go to LSU year after year. Faculty members continue to contribute in both education and research, as measured by student achievement and research grants. Tough budget decisions, particularly by Govs. Mike Foster and Kathleen Blanco, helped to raise quality for students.

And it’s one of the nation’s best bargains in higher education. A magazine, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, rates LSU as among the 100 best bargains in higher education in America.
