Story Archives: Jindal blocks resources, AG says (Caldwell Slows Investigation Into ACORN?)

Jindal blocks resources, AG says (Caldwell Slows Investigation Into ACORN?)
by MARK BALLARD - Advocate (excerpt)

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell said Tuesday his department’s investigation into ACORN was slowed by Gov. Bobby Jindal’s opposition to a fee that would have raised money to hire more investigators. “He (Jindal) is the one keeping us from having the resources to do the investigation,” Caldwell, a Democrat, said.

“That’s absolutely ridiculous,” replied Jindal, a Republican. Caldwell “has never before said or indicated he needed additional money to do that investigation.” Jindal said the budget for the attorney general’s division in charge of criminal investigation’s is about $12 million. That budget was cut only about $95,000 for the fiscal year that began July 1, he said. “Clearly, there are sufficient resources in the criminal program,” Jindal said.

Jindal said to receive more money than was appropriated this fiscal year, Caldwell would need to document the work that has been done and demonstrate how any additional funds would be used. “He hasn’t done that,” Jindal said. “He’s got the funding to do these investigations.”

COMMENTARY: Buddy Caldwell is now investigating the group funded by Democratic party and Obama contributors and federal dollars that has been given much credit in Obama's victory last fall. The Democratic Attorney General appears to be looking for an excuse to slow down his investigation. What's he going to bust them for, spending taxpayer money on politics? Oh, he couldn't do that, he just issued an opinion saying that was OK!!!
