Two hundred fifteen people at the local General Motors plant took part in the automaker's latest Special Attrition Program. That brings the total of locals who have taken a buyout or early retirement to 397 for 2009.
A previous SAP was offered in February, when 182 people signed up. Under the terms of the program, employees eligible for retirement were offered a vehicle voucher and a one-time cash payment, in addition to their pension.
Employees who do not qualify for retirement but wish to separate from GM could have selected a buy-out package, which will provide the same incentive.
