2ND Quarter's Donations- (Vitter Raised More This Quarter Than Melancon's Total)
Times-Picayune (excerpt)

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville, who is thinking about a U.S. Senate run next year, and Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao, R-New Orleans, who may face the toughest re-election contest in the country, set the pace for fundraising among members of the Louisiana House delegation the second quarter of the year, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission. Melancon, who is mulling a challenge to Sen. David Vitter, R-La., took in just shy of $400,000 between April 1 and June 30, bringing his campaign chest to $1.2 million, almost exactly what Vitter raised in the last quarter, pushing his total to $3.2 million. Cao's haul for the quarter was $365,000. Cao, who defeated nine-term Democrat William Jefferson, who is now on trial on federal corruption charges, had raised less than $150,000 in the first quarter. Last week, Politico listed Cao, along with Sens. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., and Roland Burris, D-Ill., as "dead men walking," politically. Burris has since announced he is not seeking re-election.
