'Bonnie and Clyde' movie to boost Alexandria's economy

"The Story of Bonnie and Clyde," a film to be shot in downtown Alexandria, is expected to bring "no less than" $1.4 million in actual spending to the city, according to city officials. And that's not including the multiplier effect from money spent by those associated with the Cypress Moon production, such as the cast and crew, said Bill Hess, the city of Alexandria's director of economic development. "They don't film all day long," he said, referring to the impact for local restaurants and entertainment establishments.

Part of that initial $1.4 million will include items like set catering ($140,000) and set construction ($150,000). But, Hess added, the amount for catering does not cover the making or delivering of food, and the same goes for construction costs, which just account for materials. There are still carpenters to be hired, he said.

According to the film's producer, Tonya Holly, local craftsmen will be hired for set work along with local people who want to be paid extras in the film. Holly said a second casting call will be held in the area. No date has been set.
