West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris confirmed Tuesday that 202 employees at the Shaw Process Fabricators on New Natchitoches Road will lose their jobs in June.
He said Baton Rouge-based Shaw Group stated in a letter to the city on Tuesday that the plant will permanently close because of economic conditions. Workers were told about their jobs losses Tuesday.
"They've been here for quite a while. They were good jobs and good salaries," Norris said.
He said the closure will be effective June 27.
The plant manufactures fabricated pipe and fittings. It has done an estimated $11 million in business annually.
