Education Budget Cuts Could "Darken" Future

The huge budget cuts to public education — from kindergarten through college — threaten to derail the state's educational progress and "darken our state's economic future."

That was the message delivered Wednesday by Louisiana Federation of Teachers President Steve Monaghan when he visited Monroe to meet with the local organization and the media.

He said Gov. Bobby Jindal's proposed budget is not good for education with its $219 million in cuts to public colleges and universities, and nearly $200 million in kindergarten to 12th grade funding.
