Officials pitch $800,000 plan to hire insurer aid

A price of up to $800,000 is being estimated as the cost of hiring a consultant to recommend ways to improve operations at Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp., which insures property no one else will.

The state-established company’s executive committee has recommended finding a consulting firm and hiring a new chief executive officer at a salary of $210,000. A headhunting firm would be hired to land the new executive, according to minutes of a recent executive committee meeting.

The committee also recommended that Citizens’ current chief executive, Terry Lisotta, move back to running the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana, which does the underwriting for Citizens and sets fire insurance rates.
