Rep. Fleming Asks Students: What would you do if you were in Congress? Shreveport Times (excerpt)
Congressman John Fleming wants high school students to tell him what they would do to improve their community if their classroom was the House of Representatives. The budget: $1,000.
The proposals can’t directly benefit the school submitting the idea or anyone affiliated with the school, according to the news release. The proposal must: (Click on story title link above for the rules)
Four winning ideas will be selected, and the classes will receive the money to turn their ideas into action.
Congressman Fleming will fund the projects through the $4,700 he received from the pay raise given to all members of Congress, the news release states.
“Every day, Congress makes decisions spending billions of taxpayer dollars. On every vote I cast, I always keep in mind fiscal responsibility and spending taxpayer dollars wisely,” said Fleming. “I think the young minds of this country understand this concept better than most, so I am challenging the high school teachers and high school students of the 4th Congressional District to show me what they would do if their class was the House of Representatives.”
The deadline is April 24. Winners will be selected and notified no later than May 6. For more information, call Communications Director Amy Jones at (202) 225-2777.
