Louisiana’s top school board approved a $250,000 consultant contract Thursday moments before the panel endorsed a standstill public school budget because of state financial problems.
The five-month contract goes to Michael Fullan Enterprises Inc., a firm led by a Canadian educator touted as a world leader in education reform.
State Superintendent of Education Paul Pastorek, who won authority for such contracts last year, called Fullan “the guru” of reading and math improvements, which is a key Pastorek goal for raising student achievement.
